One afternoon, while strolling down a street, I noticed something strange: people tend to leave trash at the storm drains. I started counting, and on a street about 100 meters long, there were up to 10 piles of trash filling the drains on both sides of the road.
The tendency to imitate: I noticed that if the first bag of trash is placed somewhere, the subsequent bags will follow suit. If the first bag is placed, intentionally or unintentionally, near a storm drain, the following bags will be placed right next to it. The same happens during festivals; instead of picking up the trash they see on the street, people continue to litter, thinking everyone else is doing it too.
The habit of filling empty spaces: Could it be that because the storm drains are recessed, people throw trash there to level it with the rest of the road? This habit is similar to how most Vietnamese people drive. When they see an empty space, they try to squeeze in, with no one willing to give way or follow any rules.
Lack of public-mindedness: Whenever it floods, people often blame the government. It might be true that the drainage system isn’t perfect. But even if it were, if people continue to dump trash like that, the streets would still flood when it rains.

I wondered why people leave trash there. What were they thinking when they did that?
The street is like a reflection of the people. Looking at it, one can see the character of a nation.
